The End of Split Ends

First of all, split ends are not a personal failure. They happen to everyone and they’re one of the top reasons new clients come see us. And we give them the most fabulous news! The coffee is delicious! And more importantly, about your hair, once you know the biggest culprits for split-ends, you can absolutely keep them under control.

In the 1st place: Silicone In Your Products 🌀

Silicone is a difficult friend to have. On one hand, it is the reason some products make your hair feel silky-smooth after just one use. And that sounds just lovely, but there is a big catch: not all silicones are water-soluble. That means they do not wash out easily, and over time they can build up and act like cling wrap around your strands. It blocks the moisture from getting in, and you're left with dry brittle ends. Rotate with silicone-free options, and don’t skip clarifying shampoo when you need a reset.

And 2ndly: Heating Without Protecting 🔥🧴

Flat irons, curling wands, blow-dryers…all these beauties apply high heat that literally fries the protective layer of your hair.

The solution is simple but often skipped: heat protectant. Use one every. single. time. Even if you’re just “quickly” straightening that one section in the back (yes, we see you). Bonus tip: some protectants are for damp hair (before blow-drying), while others are for dry hair (before irons). Grab the right one for the job and your ends will thank you.

And finally, Number 3: 💧🪨 Overwashing (ESPECIALLY in Hard Water)

If you’re washing daily, your ends are basically crying out for help. Even the best shampoo can strip too much when used too often. Here’s a little local twist: most of St. Tammany Parish actually has soft water, which plays nice with your hair.

But Slidell leans on the hard side, so minerals build up on your strands. If that’s you, clarifying shampoos or professional treatments are very important.

The rule stands: keep wash days reasonable (2–3 a week is plenty) and let conditioner + leave-ins do the heavy lifting for your ends.

It is true that once your hair splits, we can't glue it back together. Can you imagine trying to do that? Little tweezers...It would take so long...anyway. After a lovely hair cut, you can start nourishing and repairing.

Okay, okay...So How Do I Fix It, Again?

🌟 Leave-In Conditioners – These are your daily bodyguards. Use them after each wash to keep moisture locked in and tangles at bay. Fine hair? Go lightweight. Thick or curly hair? Don’t be shy with a creamier formula.

🌟 Heat Protectors (The Right Kind) – Think of them as SPF for your strands. Always apply before heat, and double-check if yours is for wet or dry use.

🌟 Deep Conditioning + Salon Treatments – At-home masks once a month (weekly if you’re damaged) are game changers. But nothing beats the professional-grade rehydration we do in the salon. Our treatments penetrate deeper, restoring shine and strength that DIY just can’t match.

Madam...split ends are common, they’re annoying, but they are not forever. With the right mix of home care + a little professional love, your ends can look polished and smooth and gorgeous again.

Yes, Morrocanoil Perfect Defense Heat Protectant is really good and it works for wet or dry hair. You can get it online for around $30, or if you are in the neighborhood, we keep it on our product shelf for cheaper.
